The City and County of San Francisco has a new open data site:
Please follow the link to the site to search, browse and view San Francisco data.

I would like to see many of these datasets for demographics (such as homeless populations), social services (food stamp applications, WIC, CalWORKS, MediCal), and crime reporting be posted not only for the whole county, but by census tract. Many GIS researchers use census tract as a basic geographical unit to study areas - zipcodes and counties are too big.

The Human Services Agency client information is tracked using statewide databases that do not capture that information at this time. Datasets are currently available at the census tract level.
